The Spanish shipyard Metalships & Docks, S.A.U. has delivered a new Multipurpose Offshore[ds_preview] Construction Vessel to the Norwegian Shipowner North Sea Shipping AS. This new vessel, named »North Sea Giant«, is one of the biggest OCVs in the world at this moment. It has an overall length of 156 m, a 30 m beam and over 22 MW of installed power.

The vessel has a capacity for 120 people and its structure is highlighted by its heliport on bow and the bridge placed on the sixth deck of the vessel. The vessel boasts a working deck area of close to 3,000 sqm.

The »Giant« is currently at Kristiansand installing its huge deck cranes and is expected to be operating in a few weeks.

This newbuilding is the result of Metalships achievement after many years of specialisation in this type of vessels. The Spanish shipyard has lately built five large OCVs for Oceanteam and various other partners. The shipyard, located in Vigo, has its work load assured until January 2013, after recently signing two new contracts for two more offshore vessels, one with the company J R McDermott / Oceanteam and the other with the company Technip of France.
