The German cruise line company Aida Cruises has announced to change power[ds_preview] supply for ships berthed in port to LNG technology. As soon as 2013, a new facility LNG hybrid barge, developed by Becker Marine Systems, is to be ready to provide low emission energy to the first ship in the Port of Hamburg. Aida claimed to be ready for the use of shoreside power supply. While Aida supplies the know-how in cruise technology, Schramm Group, operator of Germany’s first LNG port of transshipment, will run the barge. According to the plan »Aida Sol« will be the first vessel to be supplied by an LNG barge at Hamburg Grasbrook Kai as soon as summer 2013. The generated current will be flexibly supplied to the ships’ grid. In times of low demand by the cruise ships, energy company E.on Hanse will use the current for the city’s power grid.
