Classification society DNV GL has kicked off the so-called Green Coastal Shipping Programme for eco-friendly shipping together with[ds_preview] 25 Norwegian maritime industry partners and the Norwegian authorities. So far five projects have been revealed. Project owner Nor Lines will develop a so-called CargoFerry Plug-in Hybrid. This short-sea container ship concept includes a zero emission solution during port sailing and operations. The objective of pilot 2 is to investigate technical solutions for utilizing batteries and VOC (Volative Organic Compounds) that can be implemented in a new shuttle tanker concept. In another project optimized hybrid propulsion systems which provide more energy and redundant operations are on the agenda. The project owners are ABB and Cargo Freighters’ Association. The next project is a conversion of a cargo carrier into a battery-hybrid LNG carrier. The project owners are Øytank Bunkerservice and the Norwegian Gas Association. The fifth project is a pioneering green port with the objective of developing a low-energy-consumption port with a minimal carbon footprint by electrified port operations including electrical heavy-duty vehicles and cranes. The project owner is Risavika Harbour in Stavanger.
