Danish shipbuilder Soeby Vaerft has received an order for the construction of an all-battery electric ferry. The E-ferry[ds_preview] will cost approximately 21.3 mill. €, of which 16mill. € will be adopted by EU funding under the Horizon 2020 research programme. Ten partners take part in the project which is scheduled for four years. The vessel is expected to be put in operation on the route Søby-Aero-Fynshav from summer 2017 on. It will have a 4.2 MWh energy storage system which is equivalent to the highest capacity of a battery installation specified for a ferry to date. Carbon-fibre reinforced (CFR) composite modules will be used in the superstructure provided by Faaborg-based Tuco Marine.
