Gibraltar has signed a heads of agreement with Shell on the supply of LNG to a new power station to[ds_preview] be built on reclaimed land at the north mole. The exploratory piling has already been completed. The onshore facility is not a bunkering facility but the government of Gibraltar informed, that it is intended to offer bunkering services conducted by an offshore bunkering vessel. According to a government statement LNG bunkering will be »immediately available« once Shell supplies the liquefied gas to the region. Delivering LNG to the GibElec power station is the first step for Shell in LNG supply to the Mediterranean, which the company is planning to establish in Gibraltar and Malta within the next ten years. Gibraltar is already among the most important bunkering locations worldwide. Shell was chosen over two other contenders.
