Jotun and Dalian Ocean Shipping Company (a wholly-owned subsidiary of China Ocean Shipping Company, Cosco Group), have celebrated the[ds_preview] 10,000th application of SeaQuantum, Jotun’s premium antifouling, to their 297,336-dwt tanker »Cosrich Lake«.

First launched in 2000, SeaQuantum is built on Jotun’s decades-long experience working with silyl acrylate technology. According to Jotun unlike other ion-exchange biocidal anti-foulings produced by competitors, silyl acrylates are hydrophobic (water repelling), not hydrophilic (water attracting). When exposed to sea water, silyls should provide predictable self-polishing properties and a thin leached layer, which is vital to providing reliable, long-lasting protection.

In addition to its chemical advantages, SeaQuantum is based on more than 15,000 test formulations and is supported by a global organisation that ensures the careful control of raw materials and a network of highly skilled expert coating advisors.

According to Mr. Zhao Jinwen, Vice Managing Director COSCO Dalian, SeaQuantum plays an important role in the company’s efforts to improve fuel efficiency and reduce emissions. »We are very pleased to receive the 10,000th application of SeaQuantum«, he said. Geir Bøe, Jotun’s Vice President Marine Coatings says the Cosrich Lake project represents a genuine milestone for Jotun. Bøe’s colleague, Dr. Jian Wang Technical Director (Jotun Shanghai) notes that the VLCC (Very Large Crude Carrier) »Cosrich Lake« was coated with a full system of SeaQuantum Ultra S, which is specifically designed for vessels that are slow steaming or have low activity.
