After three months of vacancy, Bahrain´s r[ds_preview]epair yard Asry now appointed a new CEO. Andrew Shaw will rejoin the company in early January 2017.

The company, describing itself as the »the leading ship and rig repair yard in the Arabian Gulf« was looking for a new Chief Executive Officer since August, when the Norwegian manager Nils Kristian Berge stepped back from that position to return to his home country due to »family reasons«.

Shaw knows the shipyard very well, after holding the position of General Manager of the ASRY Offshore Services division from 2009 to 2014. ASRY Chairman, Shaikh Daij Bin Salman Al Khalifa, confirmed the selection: »With the current challenges facing the Middle East ship repair market, we were looking for a candidate that would bring not only relevant industry experience, but also a proven track record of good leadership, as well as a dynamic hands-on approach to facing the challenges in our future. Andy is all these things, and is also intimately familiar with the inner workings of ASRY having worked here for almost five years previously, positioning him perfectly to take the yard forward.«

According to the statement of the yard, Shaw has more than 25 years experience in the global maritime industry. He was most recently Group Managing Director for two and half years of the leading UK ship repair and conversion company A&P. His previous career also includes time at Vickers Shipbuilding & Engineering Ltd (VSEL) and Vosper Thornycroft.

Mustafa was Asry‘s »Acting CEO«

Shaw succeeds Magdy Mustfa, who was as »Acting Chief Executive« after Berge resigned. He has been Procurement and Contracts General Manager at Asry and took on all Chief Executive duties in addition to his initial role, effective from 1 September 2016.

Mustafa began working at ASRY in 1978, and acted in his 38 years in a variety of roles. »Having been with the company since just after its inception in 1977, seeing the trajectory of the company over several decades, and being an integral part of its evolution, Mustafa is ideally positioned to provide steady leadership at this transitional time«, it was stated.
