To develop solutions and services in the s[ds_preview]mall scale LNG business, French energy company Engie has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Wärtsilä.

The cooperation covers four work streams: LNG for ships, LNG distribution in islands and remote areas, LNG to Power solutions and small scale LNG and bio liquefaction. Both Engie and Wärtsilä say they are committed to work for a low-carbon economy and shifting from coal or diesel towards LNG- solutions is an important step in the right direction.

Through this partnership, both companies will share Wärtsilä’s technical expertise and Engineering Procurement and Construction capabilities and Engie’s technical expertise, experience in natural gas distribution and commercialization, as well as to offer operation and maintenance services, it was said.

»Engie has taken key positions in the small scale LNG market. This agreement with Wa?rtsila? will help develop innovative small scale LNG solutions with quicker implementation time and enhanced competitiveness,« says Jean-Marc Leroy, Engie’s Managing Director Gas Chain.

»We are excited to work with Engie and together develop more sustainable energy solutions for our customers and society. This cooperation is an important step towards Wa?rtsila?’s goal to grow in the small to medium scale LNG terminal business«, says Alexandre Eykerman, Vice President for LNG Solutions at Wa?rtsila?.

Wa?rtsila? is the EPC contractor for an onshore small scale LNG terminal in Finland. It has delivered several small scale power barges and a biogas liquefaction plant. Engie is one of the pioneers in the development of small scale LNG markets and innovative solutions: small liquefaction, LNG truck loading, LNG bunkering, LNG fuelling stations, LNG to Power, LNG supply to remote customers.
