United European Car Carriers (UECC) has na[ds_preview]med the first LNG dual-fuel Pure Car and Truck Carrier (PCTC) with A1 Super Finnish/Swedish ice class. The naming ceremony for the »Auto Eco« took place in the Belgian port Zeebrugge.

The contract for two 181 m long vessels was signed with Kawasaki Heavy Industries in March 2014. The carriers with a capacity of 4,000 cars were built at the NACKS yard in China.

To make sure the vessels can trade safely in icy waters, »Auto Eco« and her recently not named sister have been constructed to meet the highest ice class standard: Super 1A Finish /Swedish Ice Class. According to the owner the vessels may be scheduled to trade in the Baltic Sea, but the are capable of sailing just about anywhere – including the Northeast or Northwest Passage if ever called upon.

The addition of new automotive vessel like »Auto Eco« is a reinforcement of the sector.
UECC is jointly owned by Nippon Yusen Kabushiki Kaisha (NYK) and Wallenius Lines.
