IRISL seals 700 mill. $ deal with Hyundai

Hyundai Heavy Industries has sealed a 700 [ds_preview]mill. $ on deal to build 10 vessels for the state-owned IRISL. The ships will start being delivered in 2018.

The contract is the first shipbuilding order by the Iranian company following the lifting of international sanctions on Tehran earlier this year. The contract is secured by Korean financiers.

Hyundai will build four 14,500 TEU  containerships and six 49,000 dwt product/chemical tankers for Islamic Republic of Iran Shipping Lins (IRISL).The boxships measure 366 m in length, 48.2 m in width and 29.9 m in depth, the will be built by HHI while the product/chemical tankers to be built at Hyundai Mipo Dockyard in Ulsan are 183 m long, 32.2m wide and 19.1m high.

The negotiations for these contracts had commenced in December 2015 and resulted in signing on December 9 in Seoul. In addition to the contracts, HHI plans to discuss and pursue technical cooperation with Iran to develop the shipbuilding industry at local Iranian shipyards, stated IRISL.
