The Deepwater Container Terminal (DCT) Gda[ds_preview]nsk has reached a turnover of approximately 1,3 mill. TEU last year. This is a record in the history of the terminal and of the entire Polish containerization.

According to the terminal already in October 2016 the number of containers handled exceeded the overall result in the previous year (1,068 mill. TEU).
The achievement of such a result was influenced by many factors, from the growing need for direct calls of oceanic container vessels in the Baltic to the visible growth of cargo targeted at Eastern and Central Europe markets. Over the last few years DCT Gdansk has continually expanded the portfolio of clients.

Doubling of the capacity is possible

According to DCT Gdansk last year was special not only because of the record-breaking results but also due to the fact that one of the largest investments in Pomerania – the construction of the second deepwater berth (T2) in DCT Gdansk, was finalized. T2 investment, completed on time and on budget, enriched the terminal with the next berth, new yards and state-of-the-art terminal equipment, could double DCT’s annual handling capacity from 1,5 mill. to 3 mill. TEU.

After finalizing the investment, at the end of last year the CEO position of retiring Maciek Kwiatkowski was taken over by Cameron Thorpe. Thorpe sees the main challenges for 2017 to attract new services and to push further into central Europe, whilst retaining and consolidating the position with the existing customers.
