The Port of Ystad, located in the southern[ds_preview] part of Sweden, has announced a new record in terms of traffic volumes. More than 2,000,000 passengers were reached.

According to the Port of Ystad the increase in volumes of goods, trucks, cars, and passengers all set all-time high records, which is a very positive development for the port and the city of Ystad. The number of Goods (+11.4%) and Trucks/trailers (+12.6%) have grown by more than 10 % each. The increase in volume of goods was primarily achieved due to positive development in the Polish traffic the port stated. The number of passengers (+5%) rose on more than 2,000,000 people. One reason for that was the increased traffic to both Poland and Bornholm Port of Ystad added. The number of cars and busses (+6.1%) each grew, too. However significantly fewer railway waggons were counted (-13,3 %).

The Swedish expect the positive growth to continue in 2017. The port is preparing for the future volumes and larger vessels by projecting two new ferry berths it was said.

The Port of Ystad is the third largest ferry passenger port in Sweden and the largest port to handle traffic to and from Poland and the Danish island of Bornholm in the South Baltic.
