The hull cleaning system from HullWiper was honoured with the Environmental Award at the Tanker Shipping & Trade, Conference and Awards in London.
According own information HullWiper delivers a foul-free hull with little or no down-time, whilst preserving both the delicate ma[ds_preview]rine eco-system and human life. It uses water jets to remove fouling rather than brushes or other abrasives which can damage expensive coatings and collects debris from the operation for environmentally approved disposal on land, thus reducing the risk of cross-pollination of waters with alien species.
It was among the nominees shortlisted by the conference’s advisory panel for the Environmental Award, but the winner was decided by a public vote of magazine readers and social media followers.
The Tanker Shipping & Trade award is the 10 th award won by the diver- and brush-free hull cleaning Remotely Operated Vehicle (ROV) since it was launched in December 2013. Managing Director Simon Doran hailed the award as a milestone for the company: »It represents direct acknowledgement from our industry peers within the tanker shipping and trade sector of HullWiper as a viable, environmentally-friendly alternative for hull cleaning solutions. It will help raise awareness to what we are doing to reduce the impact of invasive species across the oceans, using a method that is both safe, controlled and long-term cost-effective.«
