Europe’s most modern fire-fighting boat is equipped with Schottel rudder propellers and Schottel transverse thrusters to enable maximum manoeuvrability[ds_preview] and optimum efficiency. The vessel, which is operated by Flotte Hamburg, a subsidiary of Hamburg Port Authority, and built at the Fassmer shipyard, will be deployed in the Port of Hamburg. 44.14 m long »Branddirektor Westphal« will be powered by two Caterpillar C18 with 500 kW each. Each engine drives a 360° controllable rudder propeller SRP 190 FP, which has a propeller diameter of 1,350 mm and an input power of 500 kW. The boat achieves a free speed of 12kn. In combination with both rudder propellers, two electrically driven transverse thrusters STT 170 with 330 kW each enable optimum manoeuvrability and DP capability.
