The Connecticut Maritime Association (CMA) will host CMA Shipping 2014 again from 17 to 19 March in Stamford, Connecticut, for[ds_preview] the 29 th time. Visitors from 50 countries will attend the »conference that brings the decision makers together«. In the heart of the US shipping industry, energy and bunker will be highlighted topics at this year’s event, as vessel speed is key to economic performance, and as the USA are fastly growing into their new role as one of the world’s leading producers of energy. Eco ship design will also be top on the list.

Accordingly, the opening lecture will include the »US Energy Miracle«, global food ressource requirements, change in the Far East from a Singapore perspective and leadership through personnel. As »Speed« has been chosen as title for this event, the attendees predominantly coming from the US may expect a lot during the three days of the renowned maritime trade fair. The event will feature 13 sessions and some 2,500 industry experts. About 130 international exhibitors show the scope of the maritime industry from class societies, flag states and maritime software to bunker, ship equipment, insurance, P&I, shipyards and communications. At the Hilton Hotel in Stamford booths are almost sold out, according to CMA. The host promises market-oriented activity and networking. A special space will be provided for exhibitors and attendees to schedule short seminars and product launches within the show area.

High-ranking delegates from around the globe gather in Stamford

Traditionally CMA has a wide focus presenting all facets of international shipping and trade markets. The sessions start on Monday, 14:00 h, with an outlook »Around the World in Ninety Minutes: The State of the Industry« where i.a. sustainability, future cargoes, and the future of maritime combustion engines in ECAs will be discussed by leading officials from Bimco, Intercargo, Intertanko, and ocean carriers. At Tuesday morning at 9:00 h three tracks will take place: The first will analyze »Supply and Demand and the Shipping Investment« and get into details about the US energy boom as well as the business situation in Latin-America, Asia and Africa. The second track will focus on the »Economic Returns of Avoiding Obsolescence«, a topic related to Emission Control Areas and new marine propulsion. Track three will deal with the Maritime Labor Convention (MLC). Afternoon sessions or tracks at 14:00 h include »The Smart Ship«, »New Energy« and »Jobs & the Future«, followed by the CMA Job Fair which will provide networking opportunities for candidates and businesses.

Wednesday starts at 9:00 h with »Operations: Where the Rubber hits the Road« concerning new operational strategies while track two leads to »21st Century Media« and track three discusses »Bunkers: Making Sense of it all«. The afternoon sessions will feature »The Future« for shipowners, brokers and traders where CEOs from shipping companies will partake as speakers. Track two will be a »Legal Session«, so another reason for attending may be the presence of leading government officials.

More than 800 business players will honor the Commodore at Commodore Awards Dinner. The event on Wednesday, 19 March, will act as concluding ceremony. This year Robert Bugbee, President of Scorpio, will be awarded.
