First LNG-ready ULCV named

The first ever LNG-ready ultra large container vessel (ULCV) was named[ds_preview] by the United Arab Shipping Company (UASC). The MV »Sajir« is the first newbuilding in UASC’s current newbuilding program comprising 17 eco-efficient vessels. According to UASC the 15,000TEU (A15) DNV GL classed vessel is the largest and most eco-efficient vessel in its capacity range. Preliminary calculations indicated an Energy Efficiency Design Index (EEDI) value close to 50% below the 2025 limit established by the IMO, the company stated. UASC announced, the CO2 output per TEU for the new vessel class would be 22% less than for a 13,500TEU vessel delivered two years ago. The vessels were designed and prepared for a quick and cost-efficient LNG retrofit at a later stage. This »LNG-ready« concept had been confirmed with an Approval in Principle from DNV GL.
