Shipping companies Genco and Clipper announced the establishment of a new commercial[ds_preview] pool for supramax grab fitted bulk carriers between 52,000 and 58,000 dwt. Each company commits 50% of the initial 16 ships to the »Clipper Sapphire Pool«.
The move to improve efficiency comes with supramax rates at basement levels after the last quarter of 2014, that was not going well at all for the dry cargo market. According to Clarksons Capital Markets, supramaxes are presently trading around 9,000$ a day, down from 13,000$ one year ago.
Clipper stated, they already worked on growing the new pool with new first class owners and discussed ultramax pool for new 63,000+ dwt vessels, of which Clipper currently operates eight.
