At the European Shipping Week in Brussels (see also page 30) the[ds_preview] European Research Association »Vessels for the Future« will offer insights into the ambitions, targets and work plan for research focusing on vessels and waterborne operations. Under the workshop name »Vision 2050: European Vessels for the Future Initiative«, Dr. Pierre C. Sames, Director of Technology and R&D at DNV GL and chairman of the Research Association, presents on 2 March at 16:00–17:15 the ambitious targets of the 54 companies, research institutes, academic organisations and associations that have joined this initiative.

The evolution of the maritime sector will need to ensure drastic emissions reductions, meeting safety requirements with the advent of new technologies and operations, training highly specialized manufacturing and operating personnel in order to use these products and provide services in this evolved and competitive waterborne environment. »Vessels for the Future« seeks to engage the European Commission with a private public partnership addressing European policies of transport, enterprise, energy, environment and climate protection within the framework of Horizon 2020, building on the expertise of the Waterborne European Technology Platform and the wider maritime community. DNV GL will play a leading role in the new research association, contributing to various working groups. (see also page 30).
