With its 12V250 marine diesel engine GE met the emissions requirements through[ds_preview] non-selective catalytic reduction (SCR) technology without urea-based after-treatment. The new unit received the EPA Tier 4 certification. GE is also working towards U.S. EPA Tier 4 and IMO Tier III certificates for similar engines. According to a Jensen Maritime study, for operation on a typical line-haul tug, GE’s solution takes up only 25% of the engine room space required by a competitive solution and weighs about only 25%. Besides, it does not require additional onboard equipment.
