312 mill. $ for 18,000-TEU-ships

Chinese Export Import Bank (Cexim) loans 312mill. $ to CSSC-owned Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding[ds_preview] for the construction of three 18,000TEU container vessels.

Once delivered the vessels will be charterd by CMA CGM to service the routes from Asia to Europe. According to Cexim by building boxships of this size China breaks the monopoly of South Korean Shipyards in this market segment.

Before the CSSC deal, Cexim extended a 1.75 bill. $ loan to ­COSCO for the construction of 53 vessels.
