According to the shipping company the vessels will have a capacity of 18,000 TEU. Japan’s largest shipyard, Imabari, that will build the vessels, even speaks of 20,000 TEU, while rumours about 20,500 TEU of capacitiy are circulating in the market. Imabari’s sister firm Shoei Kisen ordered the boxships, that, once delivered between 2018-2019, will be time-chartered to Evergreen. The price for the newbuildings is estimated somewhere between 160 and 170 mill. $ each.

The ships with a length of 400 m and a width of 59 m would be equipped with environmentally friendly and most efficient technologoy, Imabari stated. For their construction the yard will invest 340 mill. $ for building a new dry dock facility. The yard so far had only constructed ships up to 14,000 TEU.
