Maersk orders nine 14,000 TEU vessels

Maersk Line has signed a contract with Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI) for[ds_preview] nine vessels with a capacity of 14,000TEU each. It includes an option for up to eight additional vessels. The contract has a value of 1.1 bill. $. This is the third newbuilding order in Maersk Line’s investment program announced in September 2014. The order follows the seven 3,600 TEU feeder vessels and eleven 19,630 TEU Triple-E vessels announced earlier this year as part of Maersk’s 15 bill. $ investment in newbuildings, retrofitting, and equipment. The new ships will replace less efficient tonnage and increase Maersk’s share of owned vessels. They will be designed to perform efficiently across many trades and join the fleet in 2017 under Singaporean flag. Meanwhile, Maersk and ESE sold offshore support vessel operator Esvagt for 610mill. $ to 3i Infrastructure and AMP Capital. Completion of the transaction remains conditional upon receiving clearance from the European Commission. This is anticipated by the end of September 2015.
