On July 31, 2017, the Paris MOU and Tokyo MOU jointly announced the launch of a joint Concentrated Inspection Campaign (CIC) on Safety of Navigation (SOLAS CH.V). This campaign will be held for three months, commencing on September 1, 2017 and ending on November 30. In this period, the Indian Ocean [ds_preview]MOU (IOMOU) and the Black Sea MOU (BSMOU) would collaborate with the Paris and Tokyo MOUs to launch the CIC on Safety of Navigation. All the MOUs involved will use the checklist for CIC on Safety of Navigation to assure that the navigation equipment carried onboard complies with the relevant statutory certificates, the master and navigation officers are qualified and familiar with operation of navigation equipment, especially Electronic Chart Display and Information System (ECDIS), and that the navigation equipment is properly maintained and functioning.
China Classification Society (CCS) has formulated a guideline to enable shipping and management companies prepare for the CIC by the port states in accordance with applicable rules, regulations and industrial practices. Also CCS adopted virtual reality (VR) technologies to prepare the live action ship cruise – »Real Ship Guideline for 2017 CIC«, enabling the crew in charge to more comprehensively and intuitively understand the relevant requirements on and essentials of response to the CIC organized by MOUs. CCS suggests that shipping companies take active measures, ensuring that the crew know and master the items to be inspected, carry out self-inspection and correction, and smoothly pass the inspection.
