German Shipyard, Flensburger Schiffbau Gesellschaft, is building two 195m Roll On/ Roll[ds_preview] Off ships to LR Ice Class and »Green Passport« notation for Rettig Group Ltd. Bore of Finland. The two ships, to be delivered in May and August of 2011 will be fitted with Hyde GUARDIAN™ Ballast Water Treatment Systems as specified by the owner. Each GUARDIAN™ system will have a capacity of 700 m3/hr.
The IMO Type Approved and totally chemical free Hyde GUARDIAN™ offers a compact, modular design, low power consumption scaled according to capacity, and simple, automatic operation. These advantages make it a technically attractive and cost effective solution for virtually any type of vessel. The Hyde GUARDIAN™, which uses auto-backflush filtration and UV disinfection, can be adapted to fit the available space on an existing vessel or can be supplied as a compact 100% skid mounted package. The robust design and exceptional reliability of the Hyde GUARDIAN™ system has been proven during seven years of continuous service aboard the cruise ship »Coral Princess«. This system was installed in the spring of 2003 and served as the platform for IMO G8 Type Approval testing during 2008, using the originally installed equipment including the UV lamps.

Mr. Mansnerus continued »As a company currently involved in a fleet renewal program, we had already identified in 2008 the need to start adopting the requirements of the BWMC. We screened the market for available and type approved technologies and finally decided to fit the Hyde BWMS – as the system had proven reliability and uses no chemicals, which Rettig Group Ltd Bore is trying to minimize in its ship operations. The Hyde GUARDIAN also offered us a safe technology and low power demand, which are important features for us. Today’s ships are full of complex equipment and systems that we all know require the attention of the operating crew including regular maintenance. We wanted to have a simple and fully automatic BWM system that requires minimum maintenance and little training of the operator.«
These two orders bring the total number of IMO Type Approved Hyde GUARDIAN® systems that Hyde Marine will deliver by the end of 2010 to more than 25 units.
