The Danish shipping company Nordic Ferry Services is to be known as Færgen, (»the ferry«) from 1st October 2010. The[ds_preview] shipping company is also introducing a new design. By 2012 all the ships serving inner-Danish ferry connections are to have a new livery and a new logo. With the Danish name Færgen, Nordic Ferry Services is also signalling a change of strategy. In future the company will concentrate solely on operating its inner-Danish routes. Nordic Ferry Services operates inner-Danish routes between Als and Fünen, Jütland and Fanø, Langeland and Lolland, Samsø and Jütland/Seeland as well as routes from Sassnitz, Ystad and Køge to Bornholm. The name change means that passengers and tourists travelling through the Danish islands will soon be coming across AlsFærgen, FanøFærgen, LangelandsFærgen, SamsøFærgen and BornholmerFærgen.

Per Gullestrup, Chairman of Nordic Ferry Services, »The passenger ferries are a bit like the life blood of the region and we are proud of our work connecting Danes with one another. That is why we have chosen a name that underlines our Danish identity and roots and clearly expresses our aim of strengthening the bonds between regions. We are now going to concentrate exclusively on the inner-Danish routes in order to give our passengers the best possible service«. Before making the name change the shipping company carried out a survey among its customers and staff to find out more about their expectations of ferry traffic in the Danish archipelago. It revealed that passengers see a crossing as a relaxing interlude and an opportunity to take a comfortable voyage of discovery. The shipping company is therefore to place greater emphasis on entertainment and involvement of the regions in order to turn the crossing into an all-round experience. The new design of the ships is to be completed by 2012 during their scheduled shipyard servicing.
