The German shipyard is known for developing and implementing new, eco-friendly and energy-efficient technologies in co-operation with[ds_preview] their clients and partner companies. The yard focuses on building innovative and non-polluting ships to as to relieve the sea as an eco-system. Meyer Werft counts among the cleanest and most eco-friendly shipyards throughout Europe. In order to reduce emissions of greenhouse gases even further, work is currently in progress on examining the use of fuel cells on cruise ships. Fuel cells stand out with their extremely low emissions, making them particularly environment-friendly. Water vapour is all that they emit. The shipyard is involved in the e4ships joint project in order to accelerate the future use of fuel cells on cruise liners.

Meyer Weft is also currently examining the possibilities of using dual-fuel diesel engines, which stand out with very low emission values resulting from the formation of an inner gas mixture combined with a diesel ignition jet.

Similarly, the possibility of using gasification systems is also being examined; here cruise liners can convert large quantities of waste materials into natural gas which in turn can be used to generate electricity, for example in a dual fuel diesel engine.

As a vital part of the surroundig community the company constantly maintains a dialogue about the river Ems and all related issues with all relevant social groups, the state of Lower Saxony and the corresponding national authorities, in the interests of further improvements to the ecological conditions of the river Ems.
