New member of Management Board

Stefan Bülow has been appointed member[ds_preview] of the Management Board beginning of November 2010.

Before he was with Reederei John T. Essberger GmbH, Hamburg (owners and managers of chemical tankers, bulkers, cement carriers and container vessels) as Managing Director from 2006 to 2010, being responsible for the Shipmanagement and board member of the Deutsche Afrika-Linien / John T. Essberger-Group (incl. responsibilities for new building, ship projects and crew). Before being for about six years at German shipowner Reederei Leonhardt & Blumberg, Hamburg as Technical Director, starting there as Marine Superintendent.

He served about 20 years at sea in all ranks from apprentice to Master (thereof seven years as Master in world wide commercial research vessel operation (RV »Meteor« and others) at RF Reederei Forschungsschiffahrt GmbH, Bremen (former Preussag-Group) and before with German shipowner Ree­derei Chr. F. Ahrenkiel, Hamburg on various ship types.

Stefan Bülow grew up on a shipyard near Bremen (Elsflether Werft AG), where his father was board chairman and his parents both come from families with close shipping ties. He is holding the Masters Licences »AG« (Foreign Going) and »BG« (Oceangoing Fishery), a Master of Science/Economic Engineer for Shipping and Transport, an engineering licence and is Lieutenant Commander of the reserve in the German Navy.

Besides others he is member of the Technical Advisory Board of Germanischer Lloyd (GL) and Chairman of the »GL Ship Operation Committee«, member of the Marine Committee of BIMCO, the German Shipowners’ Association (VDR) – Techn./Naut. Committee –, council member of Intertanko (until October 2010) as well as member of the German National Committees of Norske Veritas (DNV), American Bureau of Shipping (ABS), Bureau Veritas (BV) and board member of the German »BG Verkehr« (ex »SeeBG«). The priorities that he sees in his new job at ER are »projects for new vessels of the ER-fleet, third-party-management, as well as conceptional and organizational issues for ER-Shipowning together with Mr. Robert Lorenz-Meyer«. Stefan Bülow says of himself, »There is no point in demolishing walls with a solid foundation and then looking only afterwards what was standing behind them.« His first impression on board the »MV *ER« is that »I am delighted with the friendly reception I have been given and with the great support that I have sensed from the management to all staff in the departments.«

He is married with Susan C. Bülow and is father of three children and lives with his family in Hamburg.
