The new division Wind Power in Hamburg headquarters three local units in America, Asia and Europe. »With our new organizational setup we’ll have a stronger regional alignment and greater customer intimacy«, said Michael Suess, member of the Managing Board of Siemens AG and CEO of Siemens Energy. Felix Ferlemann who has headed the department Chassis Systems of the automoblie supplier Benteler until late September has been appointed CEO of the Wind Power division. In Europe alone, Siemens is anticipating offshore wind power generating facilities with an installed capacity of more than 80 GW by 2030, out of these only 6 % have currently been developed. Approximately two thirds of the construction costs for wind parks are allotted to the underwater components. So far, Siemens has been involved in the »one third« above, this should be changed, Suess added. The wind business has been expanded significantly since Siemens has acquired the Danish wind turbine manufacturer Bonus Energy in 2004. Meanwhile, the work force has increased almost tenfold from 800 to approximately 7,800 and revenues have even risen twelvefold to approximately 3.2 billion €.
