The Lloyd’s List Global Award for the shipping industry’s best innovation project[ds_preview] 2011 went to Det Norske Veritas (DNV). COO Ioannis Kourmatzis accepted the award on behalf of DNV. The proposed candidate »Triality« is a crude oil tanker concept fuelled by liquefied natural gas with a hull shape that removes the need for ballast water and will considerably reduce emission to air. »When the financial crisis hit the shipping industry in late 2008, DNV decided to increase its focus on innovation and new opportunities«, Kourmatzis said.
