Container cranes for Africa and New York

Liebherr Container Cranes has recently delivered and commissioned two Super Post Panamax[ds_preview] Cranes in Ngqura Container Terminal, South Africa. The terminal is operated by Transnet and the two cranes bring to eight the total number of Liebherr ship to shore cranes operating there.

They have an outreach of 52 m and a lift height of 37 m under spreader with a S.W.L. of 60 t under a twin lift spreader. Hoist speeds are 70–175 m/min, trolley is 220–240 m/min and the crane can travel 37 m/min. These cranes are the last of an order of 18 ship to shore cranes placed by Transnet.

Liebherr has also secured an order for a pair of high-tech Megamax cranes. These have been ordered by Maher Terminals for their Port of New York / New Jersey container terminal. The cranes on order have a waterside outreach of 61 m, a span of 30.48 m and a landside backreach of 22.9 m. The S.W.L. of the crane is 66 t under twin lift spreader with a lift height of 42.67 m under spreader. Hoist speeds are 70–175 m/min, trolley speed is 245 m/min and crane travel speed is 45 m/min. These cranes include a straddle carrier positioning system, a laser scanning boom anti-collision system and a gantry ultrasonic anti-collision system. They are fitted with cameras covering the span and backreach area, cargo area and the boom operation. Feeds are displayed on monitors in the driver’s cabin, the machinery house, the operator’s cabin and the landside gantry station.
