In mid-March 2013, the Connecticut Maritime Association (CMA) hosts its annual maritime conference in Stamford already for the 28th time
CMA Shipping 2013 will be held again this year at the Hilton Hotel in Stamford, Connecticut, from 18 to 20[ds_preview] March 2013. »Shaping the Future of Shipping – The Road to Recovery« was the title used for the CMA Shipping 1993 conference, a previous down market. Twenty years later the association releases version 2.0. The business of international shipping may never have been more complex. Just a quick look at some of the Shipping 2013 topics confirms that: ship sizes, propulsion options, shifting cargo trade routes, China’s development path, US American energy variables, Middle East politics, environmental regulations, finance uncertainty, mature economies versus emerging markets in trade development, vessel values, derivatives, private equity, etc. The number of constantly shifting moving parts make the multi-million dollar decisions complex to say the least!

A dynamic and topical seminar program, combined with cutting-edge exhibits and an enormous range of networking opportunities attracts over 1,700 major domestic and international industry players each year. The event culminates in the Commodore Gala Dinner, where an individual, selected by the CMA Board, is presented with the CMA Commodore Award in recognition of outstanding contribution to the maritime industry: 2013 it will be Peter Evensen, President and CEO of Teekay Corporation.

Some of the many prominent speakers and participants will be, for example: Koji Sekimizu (Secretary General of the IMO), Christopher J. Wiernicki (CEO and President of ABS), Yasushi Nakamura (Vice President of ClassNK), Yudhishthir D. Kahatau (President of Bimco), Capt. David Cotterell (Director of Oil Companies International Marine Forum) and Tom Boardley (Marine Director at Lloyd’s Register and Chairman of the International Association of Classification Societies), among others. As every year the exhibition and conference will include a job fair, sponsored by CMA Education Foundation, to provide a powerful networking opportunity.
