Large orders for rack coolers

Norwegian manufacturer of cooling systems and compressors Sperre received orders about eight[ds_preview] systems in total for two new construction offshore supply vessels for Siem Offshore and Solstad Offshore. The Sperre rack cooler solution is a closed tank system in which frequency-controlled pumps distribute seawater regardless of vessel speed. Seawater circulates outside the tubes and freshwater inside the tubes. Especially suited for ships with limited space rack coolers are placed between the frames in the double bottom, e.g. in the ballast tanks below the tank top, close to the main engines. A cooling system with rack coolers can be simply extended by retrofitting new elements. Due to low pressure drop the seawater pumps require little power. Able to be installed for both chilled-water and heat-recovery energy, savings could add up over the vessel’s lifetime. The tubes consist of copper-nickel which has a natural protective shield against fouling.
