Sea water cooling optimised

Colfax Fluid Handling, a business of Colfax Corporation, has introduced the new[ds_preview] technology of CM-1000 series. The CM-1000 is an intelligent sea water cooling system controller designed to operate sea water pumps only as fast as needed for prevailing conditions and to provide exactly as much flow for cooling as needed. As temperature conditions change on the freshwater side, it reacts by varying the speed of electric motors and pumps on the sea water cooling system accordingly, using only the speed – and energy – required. This reduces hydraulic loads and enhances the equipment’s lifetime. Variable speed operation provides energy savings between 40 and 80 %. Traditional system designs feature continuously running pumps at full speed for worst-case conditions (32 °C sea water, full load of all equipment, plus a bypass control).

The CM-1000 uses sensors in the pump to monitor equipment and operating conditions of each specific pump. Data is exchanged through an Ethernet, providing real-time information and status indicators to the control room. Warning and alert alarms can be delivered both visually and audibly, allowing the crew to make necessary system adjustments or service components.

It can be applied to either new vessel construction or through retrofitting existing cooling systems. Designed to work effectively with both 2 x 100 % and 3 x 50 % pumping configurations
