Based on the success of the first edition of our HANSA China Special on the

occasion of Marintec 2011, we are happy to continue this joint project, since the focus of the maritime industry is on China more than ever. We thus acknowl-edge the steady and positive support of the China Association of[ds_preview] the National Shipbuilding Industry (CANSI) and likewise the VDMA German Marine and -Offshore Equipment Industries. In particular we want to thank CANSI President Guangqin Zhang, VDMA Chairman Dr. Alexander Nürnberg as well as the association‘s Managing Director Hauke Schlegel.

HANSA China Special is highlighted once again as a platform for mutual -understanding in the Eastern and Western shipping and shipbuilding markets and their respective business culture. Key issues of this edition are efficiency and green ships. While German marine suppliers have reason to believe in a prosperous future as they have attracted new groups of customers and develop-ed new market segments, eyes are now turning to China and its special rules and efforts in green shipping, as Chinese shipyards are succeeding to gain on green ship culture and production line. Therefore, the ongoing crisis in shipping is accompanied by chances also. Experts interviewed for this issue

advocate that the potential for cooperation, especially between Germany and China, may well prove the most important one.

Meanwhile, the potential for common projects is larger than ever. The call for new ideas has become a need in ship financing, too. After a high-ranking -delegate of China Exim Bank spoke on the occasion of 15th HANSA Forum Ship Finance in 2011, the panel of this year’s 17th Forum on 14 November in Hamburg will include an expert of Bank of Communications Finance Leasing, who will give first-hand insight into his company‘s financing model. Thus, it is no coincidence that HANSA also features a special on ship finance in this issue.

Based on the enlarged scope for cooperation, we are confident that HANSA will operate as a media platform for mutual Chinese-German maritime business. Our goal is to establish HANSA China Special on a permanent basis and -provide you with appropriate information regularly, next time on the occasion of maritime trade fair SMM 2014 in Hamburg.
