With nearly 270 years of hoisting technology experience, J D Neuhaus (JDN) from Witten, Germany, currently supplies handling and lifting equipment on jack-up rigs, semi-submersibles, drill ships, and FPSO vessels around the world. The company’s product range incorporates air and hydraulically power[ds_preview]ed hoists, with lifting capacities from 250 kg to 100 t.

These products can also be incorporated into single or double girder overhead travelling cranes, underslung cranes with special low headroom trolley designs, together with purpose-designed slewing jib cranes. Hoists can be supplied for specific function duties such as BOP (blowout-preventer) handling up to 200 t, as well as providing virtually unlimited lifting and general load movement solutions including oblique and horizontal pulling under pre-determined conditions, J D Neuhaus states.

A BOP handling unit including four JDN type EH50 air-operated monorail hoists has been supplied to the Maersk offshore rig »Guardian«, for synchronised BOP handling during pre- and post-drilling operations. Two hoists are mounted on each of the twin parallel overhead rails, providing 50 t load and 20 m lift capacities for deck operations. With the two sets of hoists operating together, a combined lift capacity of 200 t was made available.

The range of hoists also covers diverse shipyard applications from newbuild to refits, repairs and dismantling. Typical tasks include the installation and disassembly of rudder blades, shafts and propellers, while internal work includes heavy components for the engine room drive equipment or installation work.
