Recently German supplier Schaaf, based in Erkelenz, received another order for ExpaTen bolts from the Dalian Cosco KHI Ship Engineering Co., which will be equipped in VLCCs. The ExpaTen bolts are used in the main drive train for connecting the main shafts. According to Schaaf, the advantage of using[ds_preview] ExpaTen bolts is that both high torques and axial forces can be transmitted. Furthermore, these bolts need less constructed space, since the amount of bolts or the diameters of bolts can be considerably reduced. Even an easy and safe dismantling is guaranteed at any time, Schaaf says. The bolts are 100 % non-positive and form fitting, and they are made of heat-treated steel.
