River cruises have turned into a genuine alternative for passengers to see interesting destinations by ship besides the still booming ocean cruise voyages.

In the last years US company Viking River Cruises has developed quite successfully in this market segment. By mid 2014, in total 25 Viking Lo[ds_preview]ngships will have been built at the Neptun Werft in Rostock-Warnemünde.

The ships are exemplary for their bright and roomy interior design. These characteristics can be found in the new cabin concept and are also reflected through generous glass surfaces.

The entrance area is equipped with a large-scale panorama skylight, which supports the friendly entrance atmosphere with much light.

Huge panorama windows in the restaurants and lounges enable the passenger’s unlimited view to the passing landscape. The main restaurant at the front of the ship welcomes the guest with a bright and friendly glass roof, which allows a clear view to the sky.

The complete frontage of the lounge can be folded aside to give access to the front terrace of the main restaurant. This place is much favoured when the sun deck is not accessible due to passages underneath flat bridges.

The characteristic trait of the Viking Longships are the »eyes« in the frontwall where searchlights are hidden. All these features where realised through the German company Marine Glazing Brombach + Gess in close cooperation with the shipyard.
