Lifeboat release hooks are in special focus since a few years when the latest IMO regulations were announced. Most of[ds_preview] the equipment makers and shipping companies are presently busy to get their systems compliant with MSC Circ. 1392, whether by modifications or by complete re-hooking. However, safety does not stop with compliance to MSC Circ. 1392. Beside quality and solid design we believe training is key for safe operations. Harding takes safety further and looked also on safe operations, developing a unique training lock as additional device of the »SeaCure« lifeboat hook, not only to safeguard drills, but to keep the functionality of the hook at all times.

Different to all other systems in the market, where the locking pin is applied through the hook directly and cannot be removed after accidential release, Harding’s training lock remains operational. Harding’s Training Lock is a mechanical device which prevents unintended release of the hooks on a lifeboat during drills. It is located on the side of each hook and is clearly visible in bright yellow. It consists of a pin which avoids the rotation of the hook locking shaft in order to keep the boat safe and secured during training on board the lifeboat.

As long as the Training Lock is applied to the release hook, it will not be possible to release the hook at any time. Due to that no force is applied onto the locking pin and it is always easy to handle and can be removed. Therefore this is the only system available in the market that allows safe release and resetting of the hook.
