The shipbuilding industry faces the lowest level of newbuilding contracts in 20[ds_preview] years. The Baltic and International Maritime Council (BIMCO) sees this as indispensable for solving the problems of the maritime sector. »The shipyards become the next victim of the deteriorating conditions as 2016 looks to set the record for the lowest newbuilding contracts in more than 20 years.« But this could be a a positive signal according to BIMCO: »A low level of contracting is exactly what the shipping industry needs in order to eventually restore the fundamental balance between supply and demand.«
