Ulstein Verft has signed a Letter of Intent (LOI) with an undisclosed owner for the construction of up to two expedition cruise vessels.

These vessels will provide excellent exploration facilities and polar capability, while minimizing environmenta[ds_preview]l impact and optimizing operational cost, said Ulstein in an announcement. »We now look forward to turning this project into reality,« stated CEO Gunvor Ulstein.

The vessels will be designed by Ulstein Design & Solutions to incorporate the distinctive X-BOW design, and will be 120 m long and 20 m wide. The vessels will surpass the newest regulatory demands for taking passengers into Arctic and Antarctic waters.

Delivery is planned for 2019 and 2020 to an unnamed owner. According to the company, the signing of the LOI represents a significant step to realize these future expedition vessels to the market. »Our 100 years of tradition and experience in building and innovate ships will benefit our customer«”, says managing director Kristian Sætre.

Only a few days ago, the Norwegian company has been awarded a very important contract by China Merchant Group (CMG), who will be constructing an expedition cruise vessels for owner SunStone. The contract includes the design and equipment package for one and options for additional nine vessels.
