Abeking & Rasmussen, Lemwerder

Situated on the banks of the river Weser the shipyard Abeking & Rasmussen was founded by[ds_preview] a man named Henry Rasmussen in 1907. Over one hundred years elapsed since then and the shipyard has been developed to a modern shipbuilding facility with currently five halls for ships of up to 80 m length, a harbour basin and a Syncrolift. In ecological friendly workshops conventional steel as well as aluminium and not magnetizing steel is being used for the construction of state-of-the-art ships and boats. As from June 22, 2009, Abeking & Rasmussen has changed its corporate form from a limited partnership to a not listed stock company. After almost 50 years, Hermann Schaedla assigned his son, Has Michael Schaedly as new CEO of the company while moving to the supervisory board himself. This step has been taken in order to prepare to cope with the challenges of the future. Simultaneously it opens a stronger international presence and more transparency to its customers.

»Elandess« is the name of a 60 m motor yacht which was delivered to her owner by mid August. The naval architecture came from the shipyard; the exterior styling was by Donald Starkey Designs, while Bannenberg & Rowell Design developed the interior.

Blohm + Voss

Blohm + Voss Shipyards & Services has confirmed its competence of constructing and building yachts in the premium segment, as well as doing refits, modifications and conversions for large yachts. Its yachts have become more viable and increasingly versatile due to for example, virtually unlimited communication technologies, on board aircraft, longer ranges, greater efficiency, reduced on-board staff numbers – and last but not least – comfort, style and furnishings fulfilling every wish.

Blohm + Voss have been building yachts for over 130 years and have set benchmarks in technology, design and exclusiveness – apart from newbuildings this counts also for refits, modifications and conversions.

Every large yacht is something totally unique. There is and will only be one. It is work of fine art – and is a prime example of engineering excellence – a discipline in which our fellow countrymen excel. B+V- yards are located with reason on north European coasts where the hinterland is rich with the industries, craftsmen, artists and artisans supplying the myriad of components required. The shipyard has covered floating docks that secure the highest quality standards and protect the yachts from the elements as well as from non-authorized viewers.

Project motor yacht »Orca« is a 96 m superyacht currently being built at the yard – a luxury yacht builder which is synonymous with large technically challenging and completely custom superyachts. The UK company Michael Leach Design created the »Orca« yacht’s exterior and interior design work and her interior styling is by Silverlining and Metrica. Superyacht »Orca« has an technologically advanced and futuristic superstructure with a steel hull, and also fascinatingly, a flowing curved superstructure which utilises an aluminium, composite and glass amalgamation. Project »Orca« will also include two Cougar Marine custom tenders on her sports deck. Superyacht »Orca« will accommodate 16 guests in six guest cabins and her two MTU 595 TE 70l diesel engines create a maximum speed of 19 knots and a 6,000 nm range at 14 knots. CharterWorld will cover the launch of project Yacht »Orca«.

The shipyard’s expert team is presently developing a series of pre-designed custom yachts allowing clients to profit from the shipyards experience in large yacht new builds and leading to shorter delivery times as well as reduced building cost.

The first project out of this series is B+V 110 MY/fast. Blohm + Voss present a new 110m luxury power yacht, a direct descendant of the famous 74 m mega-yacht »Eco« (now »Enigma«) yacht, designed at that time to be the fastest yacht of its size. This new B+V 110 MY/fast high power fast yacht with its long stretched profile sits in the water waiting to unleash its incredible power and combines the extremes of yacht design; on one hand speed and sportive appearance, on the other hand luxurious owner’s and guest’s quarters with well protected outdoor areas. The unique exterior styling completes an unrivalled yacht concept study.

In the engine rooms close to 110,000 hp (which is comparable to 100 Bugatti Veyron’s) can speed up B+V 110 MY/fast via water jets up to 40 knots with two extremely powerful MTU engines coupled to two steer able Wärtsilä 9000 water jets and two gas turbines also coupled to two further Wärtsilä 9000 water jet boosters. At the maximum speed of 40 knots B+V 110 MY/fast can roar non-stop between Monaco to Athens within only one single day (25 hours).

The internal layout of the B+V 110 MY/fast is based on most efficient usage of space. The bridge has been designed at the very top deck 6. The owner’s 280 m2 complete private deck 5 consists of a large state room facing the bow which is illuminated with natural sunlight through an amazing skylight, en suites as well as an office with a reception and waiting area well located close to the main staircase. A spacious outdoor area opens from the owner’s state room, towards the bow providing supreme privacy and protecting him from the elements while sunbathing. The entire Upper Deck 4 offers common and entertaining areas for the owner and his guests with a spacious lounge having access to the forward deck where Jacuzzis have been placed on each side of the yacht. A separate dining room can be converted into a conference room and there are also to be found a library as well as a gym with access to the aft outdoor area.

Six comfortable guest cabins accommodating 12 guests are well located together one deck below on main deck 3. An easy access is provided for the owner and guests boarding the yacht via the side gangway leading to the main lobby next to the lift and the main staircase. On the same deck there are a cinema and a large outdoor area in the aft to enjoy more entertainment.

The tender garages with side shell doors on deck 2 can accommodate on one side a small light weight seaplane and on the other side a 7 m (23 ft) tender as well as various water toys.

The accommodation is spaciously divided with the expansive owner’s suite placed forward on the main deck, just ahead of the equally grand VIP Suite, both equipped with whirlpool bathtubs in the large bathrooms. The four guest cabins on the lower deck are typically situated around the main staircase that rises through the vessel with its traditional mahogany balustrading, reaching the Sky Lounge with its window placement and the tranquil ambience. The yacht will not take long with her maximum speed of 16 knots to sail for USA where she will cruise the East Coast down to Caribbean in readiness for the coming season.
