The company R + S Stolze from Lübeck has obtained a major new contract to equip ten river cruise ships that[ds_preview] were ordered by Viking River Cruises with state-of-the-art electrotechnical applications. The order by Neptun shipyard in Rostock includes an option for another four ships. »The total volume of newly commissioned ships and related options amounts to over 50mill. €. This is the largest connected order for R + S Stolze so far,« Reinhard Hartinger, executive director of R + S Stolze, said.

High-end technology has taken hold of river cruise ships, because modern cruise passengers are more demanding and expect more than the mere transport from point A to B. »In the afternoon you send latest photos via WLAN to those who stayed at home while you may want to watch a nice movie on the ship’s own video equipment before going to bed. And safety standard on highest level is a matter of course,« Hartinger said.

R + S Stolze is responsible from the plug socket in the cabin to the navigation and communication system on the bridge, including the complete radio, radar and GPS systems, so the overall electrical engineering of the 135m long and 11.45m wide river cruise ships is left to the team. Each of the 95 outside cabins is equipped with a video-on-demand system which allows passengers to access an online video library at any time.

Furthermore, a WLAN system, 3D TVs, and a multimedia interface for playing your own content are available. »Viking River Cruises intends to prove trendsetter in the technical equipment of the ships,« Reinhard Hartinger said. The system supplier and provider of electrical engineering for newbuildings assists Neptun in planning, construction, and equipment of the river cruise ships. When four additional ships were commissioned immediately after the first order, R + S Stolze started series production, too.

While nine months were needed for upgrading the first ship in 2010, thanks to series production the current construction time per vessel amounts to only six months. This year there will be one vessel completed every month. Since 2010 a total of 27 orders by Neptun shipyard were given to R + S Stolze concerning electrotechnical equipment of river cruise ships.
