Optimarin has won a contract to deliver its ballast water treatment (BWT) solution to ten vessels owned by Atlantis Tankers[ds_preview] Group and its management arm Armona Denizcilik. Two newbuildings and the eight existing vessels in the Turkish-controlled fleet will be equiped with the system.

According to Optimarin its technology is also generating interest for its full EX approval, satisfying all Zone 1 ATEX requirements for operation in hazardous areas. It is said that this was key to Atlantis Tankers, which transports a variety of cargoes, including organic and non-organic chemicals, clean and dirty petroleum products, and vegetable and lube oils.

The systems are now scheduled for installation in the newbuilds »Atlantis Augusta« and »Atlantis Alicante« in 2016, which are currently under construction. The eight-system batch for the existing fleet is set for delivery in 2019. The installation is planned during special survey dry docking over 2019/2020. The tankers range from 3,446 to 6,416 dwt and are all designed for the transport of chemical cargoes.

Furthermore the Norwegians have received an order to provide their BWT solution for the Skipsteknisk-designed 80m stern trawler »America’s Finest«, which is currently being completed at Washington State’s Dakota Creek Industries yard.

The vessel, an ST-116XL design, has been hailed as Skipsteknisk’s most environmentally friendly vessel to date. It combines a DNV GL classed +1A1 Ice 1B hull, reducing resistance in both ice and the open water, with the ability to tow, process and freeze its white- and ground fish catch at sea. Its operational area will span the North Pacific, Gulf of Alaska and Bering Sea.

The new system is scheduled for delivery and installation onboard »America’s Finest« in April this year. Alongside its BWT solution, the vessel offers accommodation for 49 people, hospital facilities, and is completely insulated to protect the crew from the harsh conditions of its northern operating areas.
