Robotica in Maintenance Strategies (RIMS) has launched drone inspection services to the maritime and offshore industry, using the drone »Elios«.

One major focus of RIMS was to realise safe inspections of enclosed spaces. Therefore the company carried out extensive market research[ds_preview] including visiting universities in the Netherlands and Switzerland. At this facilities RIMS’ partner Flyability gave presentations of their drone »Elios«. That is a drone within a protective cage that should be perfectly suited or enter enclosed spaces and carry out in depth inspections of the enclosed areas.

Tests on »Rolldock Sky«

With it’s partners Rotterdam Offshore Group, Rolldock and Flyability, under supervision of Class, RIMS carried out a test on board the vessel »Rolldock Sky« to check whether the controls and data transfer would be okay in a ballast tank and duct keel.

RIMS believes that it is time or the maritime and offshore markets to understand and embrace what can robotics can mean for their industries. Hiring local unexperienced employees, sceptics against technology and changes and questions like where to start, are all actual challenges for the market. RIMS can support these organizations in finding solutions. Offering inspection services with new technology, the company will show the industry that many things are already possible. A wealth of new opportunities are available using their technical solutions in the very near future RIMS stated.
