Since 2008, Steelpaint products have been used for maintenance in cargo holds and ballast tanks by Chinese shipyards. Due to their »exceptional performance,« as the com-

pany states, the coating materials have been selected for several newbuild projects which will be carried out by Chinese shipyar[ds_preview]ds in the next couple of years.

Steelpaint produces high-performance single-component, MCPU (moisture-cured polyurethane) coatings which are used in a variety of specialised applications – from shipbuilding, offshore rigs, hydraulic steel structures and civil engineering superstructures to pipelines, industrial plants and machinery.

Steelpaint PUR coatings – combining high elasticity and shock-resistance – have been proving their worth for several decades. Regular on-site inspections have demonstrated that PUR coatings provide reliable and long-lasting corrosion protection and are designed for extreme environments like cargo-holds, ballast and grey water tanks as well as tidal areas, the German manufacturer says.

They cure and protect right away, even under the most unusual circumstances:

• in marine environments and relative air humidity up to 98 %

• unflagging resistance to a number of acids, chemicals, oils, fats and alkalines

• reliable application from -10° C up to +50° C

• long-life corrosion protection under the toughest conditions

• tried-and-tested compatibility with cathodic protection systems (certified by the Federal Waterways Engineering and Research Institute BAW in Karlsruhe, Germany)

Steelpaint is a subsidiary of the coatings company Emil Harrasser, founded in Kitzingen, Germany, in 1890. Steelpaint’s coatings are used for various port and offshore facilities, sheet pilings, internal and external linings, tanks, bridges, and for ship structure, as well as in combination with cathodic protection.
