The Danish towage and salvage company Svit[ds_preview]zer has appointed two new managing directors for its businesses in Europe and the Americas.

With effect from the beginning of 2017, Marc Niederer will act as MD of the region Americas and Kasper Friis Nilaus as MD of Europe. According to the announcement, Niederer has »successfully turned around the business in Europe and has significant experience within Harbour Towage operations«. He joined the Maersk Group – Svitzer is a subsidiary of the Danish maritime giant – in Maersk Line in 2005. He has been with the company for five years, latest as Managing Director of Europe.

This job will be done by Kasper Friis Nilaus (41), who has been appointed Group Vice President, too. He joined Svitzer in 2007 as Business Development Manager and was later appointed Head of Business Development. Since 2015, Kasper has been CCO. A new CCO for Svitzer will be announced in due time.

Another change will come for Martin Helweg, details about his new job in the Maersk Group are said to be revealed shortly. Steffen Risager (40) has been appointed Group Vice President. Steffen will continue in his role as MD of Svitzer Australia.

CEO Henriette H. Thygesen states: »After evaluating our opportunities in the current challenging business environment, we have chosen to make a few changes to the  Leadership Team. Our objectives are firstly to set the strongest team to take Svitzer forward and continue our success despite difficult markets. Secondly, we want to ensure continuity. Thirdly, we would like to allow some of our most talented colleagues to develop in new and exciting roles.«

Thygesen herself is the company´s CEO since September, coming from Damco, another subsidiary of Maersk, where she served as CEO Americas. Thygesen succeeded Robert M. Uggla.
