French shipyard expands

Costa Crociere and San Giorgio del Porto have signed an agreement for[ds_preview] the joint development of the shipyard Chantier Naval de Marseille. The aim is the establishment of a competence center for repairs and conversions. By signing the agreement, Costa Crociere reportedly acquires shares in the shipyard Chantier Naval de Marseille, a subsidiary of San Giorgio del Porto, amounting to 33.3%. Based in the southern French city, the company specializes in the repair and conversion of ships and is led by the Genoese company San Giorgio del Porto.

The agreement between San Giorgio del Porto and Costa Crociere constitutes a first investment of 10mill. € in the latest technologies to increase the efficiency of the yard. The investment intends to increade the capacity of the shipyard, so in future it can be be used by the entire shipping industry, regardless of the type of ship. In addition, new direct and indirect jobs will be created, it’s said.
